Okay… I have no clue if that’s even right but I believe it means “starfish”, right? I used “Google Translate” for converting the text to Japanese though so I’m not so sure if that is 100% correct.
Anyhoo~ At my school, every Monday we have a lab. I meant to post this earlier but I didn’t get the pictures until later… (you’ll figure out what I’m talking about soon enough.) On Monday, February 25, 2008 … we dissected… STARFISH!!! O__O And I must say… I had a GREAT time… as you will soon be able to tell from the pictures that my friend took on her cellphone.
Fuuko-chan would be quite mad at me, wouldn’t she? (Dozo~)
WARNING: There (may) be graphic images ahead.
Don’t mind the whole “dozo” thing… I think I even used that wrong. Well actually I didn’t meant to use it for anything anyway except to emphasize the Fuuko-ness of it all… Yeah, I make no sense.
I’m not exactly sure why, but dissecting starfish simply fascinates me. I’m not so sure if “fascinates” is the correct term to use though. I will admit to violently slaughtering the starfish. I hope doing such a thing is not against the law or anything like that. But really, starfish truly are interesting. I didn’t think they’d be so… complex. <<
Here are a few images… hopefully you’ll learn a thing or two about the internal anatomy of a starfish.
On second thought… I’m not going to share these pictures. They’re starting to creep me out though. I’ll just show you my attempt to “reconstruct” the starfish. ^^;
Of course… then I come to realize that:
Starfish don’t have six arms!
And so I attempt to put the starfish back together again… And here is the result:
I’m surprised that the teacher did not get angry at me for massacring the poor creature. It never hit me how bad I “dissected” that starfish until now… as I’m writing this entry a few weeks later.
Anyhoo, I hear that the solution that the starfish are kept in smelled really bad. While I was there in the lab with the stench looming in the air… I must say I didn’t smell anything. Well I did smell something but it wasn’t as bad as other people put it. Then again, they say that if you’re dissecting the organism, you won’t smell the solution as much.
And then to top it all off… Me and a friend of mine go to the Daycare at our elementary school every Tuesday or so (since we get out early on those days.) The Tuesday right after the lab and we find ourselves cleaning out the bookshelves there. Fun? Yes.
As I was sorting out books according to size I stumbled upon this:
It’s a book talking all about starfish; their eating habits, habitat… you name it! It was if it was taunting me or something. So we burned a good ten minutes of “cleaning” by reading the book out loud. What made the book more amusing (aside from the fact that it was all about starfish) was that the narration even rhymed. Right when we thought it couldn’t get any better… we see this:
(compliments of my friend’s cellphone)
I’m not exactly sure why it was funny before. It’s simply a starfish eating two clams… shell things… oysters at once. (Sorry I don’t know my seafood!) But with a slightly perverted mindset (I’ve been tainted D:) you may be able to understand what we’re getting at. In all honesty though, I’m not sure why that is perverted. It’s not like it’s doing anything particularly bad. The way the starfish is holding the shells simply reminds me of a bra… that’s all. I mean… how is that funny? Oh well. I suppose I’m just killing it at the moment.
Maybe I’ll upload the rest of the images some time in the future. However, I really do feel that they’re pretty *graphic* and if somebody actually requests to see them… you’re a sick minded fool.
Despite this strange narration of gruesome starfish death… support Fuuko and take one of her starfish sculptures! :D
